To ensure that every community in the Province of Samar will have access to a safe, clean, and reliable source of water, Samar Provincial Governor Sharee Ann T. Tan convened a comprehensive meeting with Local Chief Executives (LCEs) and representatives of Balibago Waterworks on May 4 to discuss the planned establishment of a province-wide water system.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Governor of the Province of Samar, focused on the priority initiative of the provincial government to provide municipalities with a sustainable water system capable of delivering sufficient and potable water to households and communities. Governor Tan emphasized that access to clean water remains a basic necessity and a vital component of public health, community development, and improved quality of life.
Balibago Waterworks System, Inc. (BWSI), based in Angeles City, Pampanga, is among the major utility companies in the Philippines and is expected to lead the management and establishment of the proposed water system in the province. Its involvement is seen as an important step toward strengthening water service delivery and ensuring that the project will be implemented with technical expertise and long-term sustainability.
The first phase of the project is set to be implemented in the first district of Samar. As part of the initial activities, the Municipality of Sta. Margarita is scheduled to undergo a site assessment on May 5 to identify and evaluate the prospective water source area.
This development marks a significant step toward addressing the need for accessible, safe, and sustainable water supply in Samar, especially in municipalities where reliable water access remains an important concern. Through this initiative, the provincial government aims to bring essential water services closer to the people and support healthier, more resilient communities across the province.
