During its Second Quarter Meeting held this morning, May 14, 2026, the Sta. Margarita Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) assessed climate-related risks and preparedness measures in response to the prevailing sweltering weather outlook.

Engr. Alexis R. Obong, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, led the discussion on the latest weather forecasts and advisories issued by DOST-PAGASA, particularly on the rising heat index and its possible effects on the municipality.

The assessment formed part of the council’s initial preparedness efforts to address potential hazards associated with extreme heat conditions. Key sectors, including agriculture, health, social services, and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), were reviewed to determine current conditions, identify possible risks, and ensure timely and coordinated responses to emerging concerns.

The council emphasized the need for continued monitoring, inter-office coordination, and proactive public advisories to help protect vulnerable groups, support affected sectors, and strengthen community preparedness amid increasing climate-related challenges.

In addition to the weather outlook assessment, the council also reviewed and approved the resolution for the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund Investment Plan (LDRRMFIP) for Calendar Year 2027, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to risk-informed planning, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience.
